Job Description:

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

In order to address the underlying factors of malnutrition, this department will have the following responsibilities:

Strategy -- Develop strategy for addressing the under lying causes of malnutrition with specific focus on long term development in line with the Action Against Hunger country strategy and global strategy.

Research – Conceive, coordination and facilitation for research studies focusing on the underlying causes of malnutrition

Capacity Building – Formulate and design capacity building sessions for government, INGOs/NGOs, communities on nutrition sensitive programming.

Innovation – Support innovations in the field of nutrition sensitive programing including climate change, agriculture, livestock, WASH

Proposals/concepts: Develop concepts and proposals in collaboration with grants department

Field Level Technical Support:  Provide technical support to field teams in implementation of grants through spending up to 50% time in the field.  

Representation: Represent Action Against Hunger at the relevant technical forums.

POSITION DETAILS

This position is the senior position within the program department. She is responsible for supporting the Head of Program and indirect line manager at HQ in departmental oversight, direction and mainstreaming related activities at grass root level.

Objective 1

To provide technical support to implement the nutrition sensitive strategy of Action Against Hunger together with field teams and partner organization.

Tasks & responsibilities

·         Identification of strategic thematic areas of intervention for Action Against Hunger in conjugation with government of Pakistan needs, policies and priorities.

·         Proper follow up on the context and recommend actions/solutions according to the needs of vulnerable population

·         support and validate the implementation guide for relevant programs implemented in the field including assessment, surveys, implementation etc.

·         Strategies the use of appropriate techniques and materials for creating awareness regarding the underlying causes of malnutrition.

·         Ensure contractual activities are completed on time, within budget and with acceptable quality

·         Identify and monitor risks, constraints or escalating issues relating to the management of the program, and inform the hierarchy accordingly

·         participate in the development of technical designs, strategy development, concepts and proposal writing.

Objective 2

To supervise the process of capacity enhancement of government, NGOS/INGOs and communities on nutrition sensitive programing

Tasks & responsibilities

·         Participation in evaluation of skills and technical competencies of relevant organizations and preparation of suitable capacity building activities/measures.

·         Skills development of Action Against Hunger country and field staff in nutrition sensitive programs.

·         Ensure that the capacity building activities are within the objectives of the mission and of proposals - this includes regular visits to the field sites in order to evaluate achievements; to discuss the constraints encountered, the possible solutions and to make recommendations for current and future programs

·         Support in measuring the impact of capacity enhancement through appropriate methodologies.

Objective 3

To ensure organizational learning through sector and experience capitalization, research and technical development at mission level

Tasks & responsibilities

·         To foster experience sharing and capitalization of nutrition sensitive programs, through technical developments, pilot projects, innovative or little documented approaches, successes/failures, contextual analysis, etc.

·         To support and implement new approaches under nutrition sensitive programs proposed by Action Against Hunger or partner organizations.

·         To propose and manage technical developments and/or operational research, if relevant

·         Take an active role in exploring and developing new areas of work and new relationships.

·         Prepare reports in line with the terms of reference for particular projects.

·         Proof-read, format and edit reports.

·         Organize workshops and other events related to project activities.

·         Comply with all internal policies processes and procedures including financial management systems.

·         Undertake other duties reasonably required by the portfolio leader and country director

Objective 4

To represent the department and the organization at national, regional, or international levels and promote Action Against Hunger’s technical viewpoints, guidelines and methods of work

Tasks & responsibilities

·         In absence of supervisor or as delegated by supervisor, represent Action Against Hunger at national/provincial/field-level and where appropriate, important international technical fora, working groups, workshops and strategic think tanks related to the department;

·         Any other task assigned by line supervisor.

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIP

Internal

·         Under the guidance of – Head of Programs/Technical advisors in HQ

·         In coordination with - Field Coordinators, Finance Co, Log Co, HR Co, Tech Cos, Grants Co;

·         With supervision of – Head of Programs

·         Research organizations

External

·       NGOs and INGOs particularly those with whom we have partnerships;

·       International standards bodies;

·       Government of Pakistan representatives including line departments, ministries and local officials.

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Monthly Report to be submitted on monthly basis.
  • Activity Progress Reports to be submitted on monthly basis.
  • Field visit reports
  • Donor-related report inputs as per requirement
  • Assessments (Rapid/General) and Surveys as per requirement
  • Governmental Reports as per requirement
  • Work plans and task lists submitted as requested;
